In the latest installment of the First Friday Webinar Series, we were joined by three speakers with insights and advice on how aquariums, zoos and museums can make the most of World Ocean Day and Party for the Planet® in 2021. A recording of the webinar can be found here , and the highlights are below.
- Emma Shahabi of The Ocean Project presented an overview of World Ocean Day 2021, covering the Conservation Action Focus as well as the tools and resources that will be available to help event organizers. She encouraged participants to visit the World Ocean Day website for existing resources, and to sign up to be notified when updates and new resources are available
- Kelly Kryc, Director of Conservation Policy and Leadership at the New England Aquarium, reflected on the aquarium’s recent experience with outreach around the conservation action issue, the call to conserve 30% of our blue planet by 2030, noting the overwhelmingly positive response from visitors as well as the promising opportunities to inform policymakers. - And be sure to listen through to the Q&A at the end!
The next webinar will focus on the importance of ensuring science-based fisheries policies. Please register for that webinar and sign up for the full series here.
