January is the start of a New Year for you, and our ocean. Some of the major issues facing our world's ocean – such as overconsumption, including overfishing, improper coastal development, polluted runoff from farms, yards, streets and parking lots, and climate change – are taking a serious toll on our ocean. The good news is that these problems are not insurmountable and you can be part of the solution for our seas. You can help make a real difference this year!

Immerse yourself in ocean learning today! This month check out one of our recommended reads, “ Ocean Book of the Month”, watch some ocean films, get inspired by fun ocean-themed music, and find inspirational images of the ocean and its diversity of life! There are a million fun ways to educate yourself!
Visit your local aquarium! Whether you live in the chilly North or the sunny South, the weather is always right for a trip to your local aquarium or other nearby informal education center. Learn about the marine animals living in your own watery backyard or about faraway coral reefs, and how we are all connected.
