Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink!
By rethinking our habits of consumption, we can rejuvenate our lives! A great way each of us can lighten our impact on our blue planet's limited space and finite resources is by consciously reducing what we "need." By reducing our consumption, reusing materials, and recycling, we can simplify life, save money, and help protect our living ocean for future generations!

Three for me...
Reuse and recycle to the max! Get creative and before you throw something away, think of a way it can be reused, for cleaning, as wrapping paper, for storage, or as an art project. If you can’t reuse it then recycle everything you can, including paper, plastics, glass, aluminum, computers, cell phones, ink cartridges, and furniture — you really can recycle just about anything! By recycling you can help lessen the load on our landfills and prevent leaching of toxins into our water supplies.
- Complete the cycle. If you purchase products made from the items you recycle, you are helping lessen your "footprint" on the planet. Read the labels and seek out recycled products. If you keep asking for them at the store or online, they will become more readily available.
- Celebrate Buy Nothing Day! Buy Nothing Day is an international holiday that celebrates our right as consumers to not consume! Take a stand against consumerism on November 29th.
...and three for the seas
- Buy positive paper. Learn about how your paper choices directly relate to either positive or negative consequences for the earth. Many types of paper are made from forest trees using harsh chemicals that end up in our ocean. Recycled and non-bleached papers offer ocean-friendly alternatives. Exercise your right to make a positive paper choice!
Think outside the box and beyond the price tag. This month is the beginning of the holiday season advertising blitz. How often do we buy things that we don’t really need? By consciously ignoring the advertisers and consuming less, we help conserve public resources and help keep our planet's life-support systems intact. Buying less, buying in bulk, and choose products with little packaging are all ways to "precycle", and make a big difference over time.
- Take conservation to work. Why not take your commitment to the ocean with you to school or work. Teach those that you work or study with to recycle! Recycling in your home makes a difference but bringing recycling to your office or school can bring about an even bigger change!
