All at last returns to the sea — to Oceanus, the ocean river, like the ever-flowing streams of time, the beginning and the end.

1 Look into car sharing programs like Zipcar and it may not be necessary to own a car. |
2 Keep your car in shape: Schedule a tune-up today to improve your car's fuel efficiency and prevent car trouble.
|
3 Save time and avoid driving unnecessary miles by doing errands in one trip, getting good directions, and calling ahead to verify hours. |
4 Ask your boss for a telecommuting day once a week - it`s working for 45 million Americans! |
5 You could get up to $115 a month in tax benefits for using public transportation: Learn how! |
6 Keep your wheels in alignment to save your tires. Recycle your old car tires to help eliminate car waste: locate your local recycling center here. |

8 Make public transportation your choice. Each year, public transportation-using households save over $1,400 worth of gas and save the U.S. 14 billion gallons of gasoline. |
9 Stay cool! Aggressive driving wastes gas and can lower your gas mileage by as much as 33 percent at highway speeds. |
10 Instead of flying, try traveling by rail - it`s a more ocean-friendly way to go! If you must fly, choose the most direct route possible; take off and landing require the most fuel. |

Remember the best spirit of the holiday season!
This holiday season remember the true spirit of the holidays — joy, life, and wonder. Celebrate all of your conservation efforts over the past year, and inspire your friends and family to take ocean conservation personally by reducing your impact this holiday season. A thoughtful gift that takes into account the planet with its purchase is ultimately a gift to the ocean.

Three for me...
Give the gift of wonder. Consider giving gifts that promote learning about our natural world such as a membership at a local zoo, aquarium, museum, or nature center. These educational institutions are working hard to ensure that our planet’s species and ecosystems remain healthy for current and future generations and will provide countless hours of learning about the amazing critters in your area and throughout the world.
- Give a gift back to the ocean. Give eco-friendly gifts made from recycled products or sustainably-produced materials. Try making something, or give something used yet still useful, purchase a subscription to an environmental publication. Get creative!
- Waste not... Reducing holiday waste can help you save time, resources, and money, and help our ocean. By making some simple changes this year, like wrapping presents in the Sunday comics and consolidating shopping trips, you can turn wasteful holiday habits into an ocean-friendly holiday plan.
...and three for the seas
- Celebrate for the seas. Enjoy ocean friendly festivities this season. Serve sustainable foods, turn the thermostat down a bit, host a holiday baking party with an ocean theme, or find some other creative way to bring your friends and loved ones together in a fun and “ocean-friendly” way.
Give the gift of good clean energy. We all know that energy costs are rising, hitting both your wallet and the environment harder than ever. Give the gift of action by reducing your impact by saving energy. Or consider giving a friend or family member freedom from the all of that petroleum pressure with renewable energy credits for the holidays.
- Remember the ocean in your giving, too! When your holiday spending is all over why not take a moment and give a gift to the ocean? Giving to The Ocean Project, or a zoo, aquarium, or museum involved with ocean conservation, in honor of someone is a wonderful way to remember the natural world and a special friend (and donations can be tax-deductible!).
