Youth engagement and leadership is the central focus for all we do.

The Ocean Project catalyzes collective action for a healthy ocean and a stable climate. By collaborating with youth leaders, aquariums, zoos, and other youth-focused and community organizations, our growing global network effectively engages the public, informs policymakers, and protects our blue planet. Much of our work over 27 years has been accomplished behind the scenes by our lean team.

  • Generating youth leadership for our blue planet is our main mission. Evolving steadily since 2009, our youth engagement, leadership, and advocacy work includes connecting youth and youth organizations worldwide and co-developing collaborative youth programs and campaigns to advance community, national and international ocean and climate policy action.
  • For 22 years we have been the driver behind World Ocean Day. We launched global coordination of this unique opportunity in 2002 to unite and rally the world for celebration and collective action around 8 June and throughout the year.
  • From 1997 - 2023 we focused primarily on supporting aquariums, zoos, museums to be bolder community and national leaders for conservation action.
  • Through the power of effective partnerships and a collaborating with our growing network of 2,000+ organizations in 150+ countries, we focus on creating collective impact and growing the movement for a healthy ocean and a stable climate.
