World Oceans Day 2018 is truly the biggest and best yet! This year, already over one thousand events are registered on the website in dozens of countries across the globe – from first time celebrations such as the International Ocean Week being held in Cameroon, to the Run to the Deep race event in London, to online events like the Healthy Seas Initiative diving beneath the waves in a Facebook live event and youth taking action through initiatives like Sea Youth Rise Up. The events, activities and actions planned for World Oceans Day 2018 are sure to make a big splash for the ocean.

The Youth Advisory Council has been hard at work preparing for World Oceans Day 2018. They developed a Plastic Pollution Lesson Plan, which young people are using as a resource to teach their peers and community members about plastic pollution, inspire them with solutions and empower them by doing an activity.  Council members will be conducting lessons in their local schools as well as hosting a variety of events in their communities. Many other members will be representing the Council at a number of events and conferences including the Sustainable Brands Conference in Vancouver, Canada and the EAT Food Forum in Stockholm, Sweden.

This year millions will take action on preventing plastic pollution and encouraging solutions for a healthier ocean. Coordinating with UN Environment, the conservation action focus on plastics aligned with the 2018 World Environment Day (June 5) theme: Beat Plastic Pollution, to make it a full week of actions on plastic pollution and solutions. We’ve put together a collection of plastic pollution resources to inform and enable organizations and individuals alike in their efforts to advance actions that combat plastic pollution and provided a simple way to take action on social media.

World Oceans Day rallies the world around June 8, and groups worldwide use the connections made to further advance action and solutions, and join existing campaigns, for the many problems facing our ocean, and society, throughout the entire year.

Here are a few ways you can celebrate World Oceans Day 2018:
