Thanks to Jane Lubchenco

Last week Dr. Jane Lubchenco completed her tenure at NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). Nominated by President Obama in 2008 as part of his “Science Team”, she served as Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and Administrator of NOAA since 2009 during which time she helped strengthen the role of science and conservation in decision-making. Also, and critically important for our network of partner ZAMs (zoos, aquariums, and museums) and others involved in advancing ocean conservation education and action, Dr. Lubchenco championed NOAA’s small yet dedicated and effective education program.
The Ocean Project would like to thank Dr. Lubchenco for her service and wish her all the best in her future endeavors. We are sure she will not miss a beat in helping to bring about a healthier ocean. In the meantime, we look forward to working with Dr. Kathryn Sullivan, who last week assumed the role of Acting Under Secretary of Commerce and Acting NOAA Administrator, and helping to continue to expand the development of NOAA as a forward-looking agency.
The Ocean Project shares NOAA’s long-term goal of healthy oceans and is dedicated to creating an informed and actively engaged society to make that goal a reality. We look forward to moving forward with NOAA in 2013 and beyond!
